Story Line

RAW Chief Srikant Rai (Jackie Shroff), gets super impressed by Romeo Ali (John Abraham), a teller in a bank by profession and a theatre artist at night, during one of his performances that he decides to use him as a spy.

Romeo is given a crash course in spying and despatched to Pakistan and from then on his mission on espionage starts. To findout his experiences, enjoy Romeo Akbar Walter on silver screen.

Star Shine

John Abraham for all his macho looks and high voltage action scenes, disappoints with his performance. There is nothing to rave about his performance as he comes with wooden expressions and his make up makes it even more difficult to watch and bear him on screen.

Mouni Roy who impressed with Akshay Kumar’s Gold got the inconsequential role and fails to elevate the scenes with her performance. Jacike Shroff is good as RAW chief. Sikander Kher attracts a bit like a cruel and menacing Pakistani police officer. Alka Amin too comes with good performance but despite their best efforts they fail to save the film.

Director’s Special

Robbie Grewal , the director dreamed of a success ride at the box office stoking the patriotic fervor post-Balakot air strikes etc. However he failed completely with his story,screenplay and direction. He failed completely with his narration as the film lacked even the basic twists and turns and the pace of the film is so pathetic that right from the start to finish, it looked like a lullaby rather than a spy thriller.

He went terribly wrong even in dealing with the emotions of the spies while working in the enemy nation under unfavorable conditions. Lackluster story telling, over exaggeration and flawed narration, tested the patience of the movie lovers.

Though the director drew inspiration from the real life incidents he failed to generate interest among movie lovers even in one scene turning it into a complete disaster much to the disappointment of the movie lovers. Cinematic liberties, illogical scenes, over exaggeration and over the top dialogues leave the viewers in disgust and distraut.

Technical

Anikit Tiwari,Sohail Sen,Shabbir Ahmed,Raaj Aashoo’s music is just ok. The songs are situational and they didnot make much impact. BGM of Hanif Shaikh is adequate but it could have been better to make powerful impact. Tapan Tushar Basu’s cinematography is good and same is the case with it. Production values are good.

N4M Review: Jeep Compass Trailhawk – Automobile lovers for long waited eagerly for the Jeep Compass Trailhawk launch. The wait has been long though it is being produced in India at Fiat Chrysler Automobiles facility at Ranjangoaon for export markets since the late 2017. The wait is however over for at least the hardcore off road version of the Compass as the launch of Trailhawk variant is now imminent in July 2019.

Jeep Compass Trailhawk compared to the standard SUV will get few mechanical changes to turn it into a better off roader. It will be powered by the same 2.0 litre Multijet diesel engine with 173 Ps of power and 350 NM of torque but it will have a 9 speed automatic gearbox instead of the 6 speed manual present in the other diesel variants of the Jeep Compass.

Trailhawk is well equipped with the more advanced 4×4 drive train which is named as Active Drive Low along with an additional Rock Drive Mode. These two are not offered in the regular model.

Trailhawk will also be beautified visually enhancing its capabilities. The front and the rear bumpers are redesigned and this helps improve the approach and departure angles compared to the regular model. Bonnet has a matte black finish in the centre to deal with the reflection from the sun while scaling the steep inclines. Trailhawk models signature ruby red two hooks also. It also has the trial rated badges on the front fenders and boot lid.

It is equipped with the improved ground clearance compared to that of the regular compass 178mm figure. The Australia spec model has the ground clearance of 225 mm and is exported from India.

Trailhawk’s interiors will have all black theme with red accents and has seats with trailhawk badging. It has the 8.4 inch touch screen infotainment unit,eight way power adjustable driver seat with memory function, panoramic sunroof and also has the front parking sensors.

It is expected to be priced at around 2 lakhs more than that of the top spec limited plus 4×4 diesel variant and may be around Rs 25 lakh market. This will turn out to be a competitor for the Hyundai Tucson AWD which has 2.0 litre diesel engine with automated gearbox and priced at Rs 26. 95 lakhs.

The jeep also offers the standard diesel model with the automatic four wheel drive option (9AT and 4×4) like the one in Australia. This suits people who are looking gor better off road capabilities with the convenience of an automatic gear box unlike those who wish to spend more for the Trailhawk’s off road goodies.

While in India the mileage remains an important parameter for the indian psyche. The claimed ARAI mileage for the Jeep Compass petrol is 16 kmpl, and for the Jeep Compass diesel is 17 kmpl.

The Jeep Compass Trailhawk will be available only with a BS VI-compliant 2.0-litre diesel engine. The engine produces 171 bhp of max power and 350 Nm of peak torque. The Trailhawk will also receive a nine-speed automatic gearbox.

BMW cars bowl all with their luxurious and posh looks. The latest entrant into its fold is 2019 BMW Z4 and let us see what comforts it offers in the rest review. The moment one gets into it, one finds out that it uses new CLAR platform with the new Toyota Supra and its aluminum suspension bits are sharper and wheelbase shorter than its earlier version. However BMW Z4 gives a rare feeling with a two seater convertible sports car credibility along with M40i trim.

It gives lot of comfort and fun without a huge engine. It’s previous version came in 2009 and though it has a folding hardtop, it was not as sharp as one drove it. The new G29 Z4, BMW rectified that with a shorter wheelbase and coming with aggressive suspension with 50: 50 weight distribution and active rear differential. BMW has a B58 3 litre inline six which actually comes in the non M cars.

Z4 looks beautiful with bumpers and also the fender and functional vent, leading to the tip of the spoiler, and mirrored in the upturned slash at the bottom of the door. BMW Z 4 is faster as one can manage  0-100kmph run in just 4.4 seconds, with single twin-scroll turbo squeezing out 340PS and 500Nm torque equipped with a  2,998cc inline six-cylinder turbocharged engine. Z4 has good fuel efficiency returning with 5.72kmpl in the city and 8.19kmpl on the highway.With a 52-litre tank, it should translate to anywhere from 260-420km on a tankful.

ZF got eight speed automatic and the peak torque is from 1,600rpm and it stays flat all the way till 5,000 revs. There is a huge surge even if one don’t have the space to fully wind out the engine to its 7,000 rev redline,  Shifting of gearbox is telepathic and it has excellent side effects. In a true German fashion, Z4 has sharper joints.

Z4 cabin has a fabric roof folded down in just 10 seconds and it seepds of up to 50kmph. Even with no  air curtain/diffuser to reduce turbulence inside the cabin there is not much buffeting till one hits 120 kmph. Driver and co passenger will be comfortable in body hugging seats. There could have been better space management as arm rest isnot very wide and deep.

The dash with a 10.25 inch touch screen up front and centre, BMW has intelligent personal assistant which like smartphone responds to voice commands. The digital dials have a unique part-hexagonal layout, and the opposed-layout needles look cool – at first.

The boot, at 281 litres, is large enough for a weekend’s worth of luggage, but only if you give up the peace of mind of the 17-inch spacesaver in there.

Irrfan Khan whom many of us had almost written off, due to his critical illness and a year long absence from work is currently shooting for a film following his neuroendocrine tumour diagnosis. The actor says he is on the road to recovery but still needs space to heal.

The 52-year-old actor received treatment in a London hospital and returned to the country early this year.

In a statement, addressed to his “friends in the media”, the actor said he has been getting requests to share his story but needs more time to process it.

“Last few months have been on a road to recovery a period to heal to fight the fatigue and face the reel and real world.

“I am aware of your concern and request to talk to you, share my journey, but I am fathoming it myself inhaling and internalising, taking baby steps to merge my healing with work and trying to experiment the amalgamation of both,” Irrfan said.

The actor is currently shooting for “Angrezi Medium”, the much-anticipated sequel to his 2017 blockbuster “Hindi Medium”.

Irrfan said he was grateful for all the well wishes he received from his friends in the media fraternity.

“I am deeply touched by your wishes, your prayers and it means a lot for me and my family. I truly respect the way you respected my journey giving me time and space to heal,” the actor said.

“Thank you for your patience and the warmth and the love all through this overwhelming journey,” he added.

Irrfan ended his statement with a quote from Austrian poet Rainer Maria Rilke.

“I feel an urge to share with you something. I live my life in widening rings which spread over earth and sky. I may not ever complete the last one, but that is what I will try. I circle around God’s primordial tower, and I circle ten thousand years long; And I still don’t know if I’m a falcon, a storm, or an unfinished song.”

The National Award-winning actor first spoke of his health on March 5, 2018, when he revealed that he was suffering from a “rare disease” but was yet to get a conclusive diagnosis.

He later revealed he was diagnosed with neuroendocrine tumour, a rare form of cancer that can target various parts of the body.

Irrfan recently made a comeback to Twitter and had expressed his gratitude towards his fans for standing by him during his health crisis.

The Supreme Court Bench of Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi and Justice Sanjiv Khanna today issued notice in a petition calling for regulation of content on online streaming platforms such as Netflix and Amazon Prime.

The appeal has been filed against the decision of the Delhi High Court, which had dismissed the Public Interest Litigation seeking formulation of guidelines for the regulation of content on online streaming platforms such as Netflix, Amazon Prime etc. The PIL was filed by the NGO Justice for Rights Foundation,represented by Advocate Harpreet Singh Hora.

The appeal filed by the NGO in the Supreme Court claims that the said platforms are not only displaying unlicensed, unregulated and uncertified content, but also running without being governed by any guidelines.

The plea also claims that due to lack or absence of any guidelines to govern the online platforms, government agencies are creating a special class of broadcasters and discriminating against customers, Cable TV producers, and D2H operators.

Last February, the Delhi High Court Bench of Chief Justice Rajendra Menon and Justice V Kameswar Rao had dismissed the plea after it was informed by Central Government that the online platforms were neither required to obtain a license from the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting nor was its content regulated by it. The Ministry of Law and Justice had also stated that the matter was outside its domain.

While dismissing the plea, the High Court had observed that since the law did not require such platforms to acquire a licence, it cannot direct them to get one. Instead, the High Court had suggested that the petitioner pursue the FIR route.

A similar plea is pending before the Karnataka High Court, wherein the petitioner has sought for the regulation of content on online streaming services including Netflix, Hotstar, and Amazon Prime Video. The High Court had issued notice in the matter earlier this year as well.

The Order dated 10.05.2019 reads as below:

There were also quite crazy things: when Basinger went to San Francisco, Alec chartered a plane that flew over the set with a banner, “I love you, Kim!” Nonetheless, it was not these special effects that prompted Kim to accept his marriage proposal.

In the mid-90s, the actress was in the center of a grand scandal: she refused to appear in the film Boxing Helena after reading the scenario, but she had already signed the contract. The court ordered her to pay penalty in the amount of $ 9 million; it was huge money at the time. Despite the fact that the actress made enough money, she did not have such a sum because of financial illiteracy and profligacy, so she could easily go to jail. The actress declared herself bankrupt, and Alec paid off her debts. After that, the couple got married.

Pearls of wisdom coming from none other than the top man of an India state, the size of Switzerland, with a population of little over 10 million. (Switzerland’s is 8.1 million) The state is Uttarakhand (UK) and it’s present Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat has kicked up a row by claiming that Cow is the only animal which inhales and exhales oxygen (O2), and has asserted Asthama patients with breathing problems can be cured by massaging cows.

However Rawat did not specify the direction of the massage, but it is believed that direction of the massage has to do with the specific type of disease to be cured.

A video went viral on Thursday showing Rawat extolling the medicinal properties of cow milk and urine at a function here.

In the video, he said cows not only inhale oxygen but also exhale it.

The chief minister also said that massaging a cow can cure one of breathing problems, while living in close proximity with the animal can cure one of tuberculosis.

ANI even quoted the specifics of the composition of inflow and outflow percentages of Oxygent. The tweet through the official ANI handle said, “Uttarakhand Chief Minister, Trivendra Singh Rawat: Italian scientists have researched and found that cows exhale up to 80% oxygen. A common person’s aura is 6-7 feet but a country cow’s aura is around 42 feet, it is our belief.”

Post these comments a twitter storm followed and innovative but embarassing memes started flowing in no time.

The chief minister’s cow eulogy comes after Pradesh BJP president and Nainital MP Ajay Bhatt recently said that pregnant women can avoid cesarian deliveries if they drink water of Garud Ganga, a river in Bageshwar district.

Rawat is not the first amongst the protagonists of this theory that contradicts all scientific stupor. The then Education Minister of Rajasthan, Mr Vasudev Devnani, in January 2017 had also specifically claimed that Cow is the only animal that inhales as well as exhales oxygen.

Much earlier to this in a Facebook post shared on December 31, 2016, Acharya Balkrishna, Managing Director and main stakeholder of Patanjali Ayurveda was even more specific to the theory. Down to numerals and percentages, he claimed, that read:

“Gai Prithvi par ek matra aisee praani hai jo oxygen grahan karti hai aur oxygen hi chhodti hai. Gai prakriti se apni avashyakta ka 21% oxygen lete hai aur matra 5% upayog mein lekar shesh 16% prakriti ko vapas kar deti hai. Gai ke sharir par pratidin 15-20 minute haath pherane se b.p. bhi theek hota hai aur netra jyoti bhee badhti hai.”

It can be translated as: “Cow is the only animal on earth that inhales oxygen and also exhales oxygen. The cow takes 21% oxygen from the environment; utilises 5% of it and gives the rest 16% back to the environment. Caressing the cow every day for 15-20 minutes cures Blood Pressure and also enhances vision.”

An official at the UK CM Office defended the chief minister’s remarks saying that he was only stating something which is a common belief in the hills of Uttarakhand.

“While the medicinal values of cow milk and urine are well known, people in the hills also believe that the cow gives them oxygen,” he said requesting anonymity.

The Oscars are considered the Olympics of the cinematic world. They are the ultimate glory and accolade that can be bestowed upon an artist of the performing arts.

Oscar History

The first Oscar was awarded in the Blossom Room of the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel on Thursday, the 16th of May in the year 1929. This is a significant year. It was the last year of the ‘Roaring Twenties’. Great technological advances had been made ever since the end of the Great War in 1918. There was a rampant exuberance amongst the business and higher classes. Everybody expected more.

Even in Hollywood, there was a sea change in what people wanted. In 1928 itself, chaos reigned in Hollywood. Most of the major studios had been caught unprepared by the overwhelming demand for talking films. This ability of the silent image to ‘talk’ brought it much closer to reality. The distinction between reel life and real life was blurred.

This saw critically acclaimed silent films playing to near-empty theatres. Small town theatre owners watched locals drive off to the nearest city where they could view the new ‘sound’ movies.

As theatres scrambled to install sound equipment, the studios raced to build soundproof facilities. This change in technology also required a change in film-making technique. Desperate studio executives purchased the rights to hundreds of existing plays and songs, and every major studio hired Broadway composers to write new screen-based musicals for them.

The change in the cinematic atmosphere was almost electric. It shook up things so much and brought about so much change that this explosion of creative energies saw rewarded with the very first industry-wide award for the moving picture; the Oscar awards. In a manner of speaking, it was the ‘voice’ that cinema got that gave the Oscars, and not the other way round.

Early Oscar Winners

In keeping with the sweeping technology engulfing the world at this time, the first Oscar winner for the best movie was also the first and last silent movie to ever win an Oscar. ‘Wings’ is a war movie set during the Great War.

The second Oscar winner for best movie was a talking movie. There would never be a silent film winning the Oscar for the best movie again. ‘The Broadway Melody’ was, characteristically, a musical.

The third movie to win the Oscar for best picture was ‘All Quiet on the Western Front’. This, again, was a war movie set during the Great War.

The fourth movie to win the Oscar for best movie was ‘Cimarron’. This was an early western.

It can be seen from the first 4 Oscar winners for best picture that action was very much the current vogue. The war and western genres as well as the musical format all involve strong emotions. The Roaring Twenties were full of celebration and anticipation. The following economic collapse of the Great Depression was equally full of emotions. There was the shock and despair at the implosion of great expectations. There was also the hope and need to rise out of this rut. This again called for action.

Changing Environment

It is surprising that the beginning of the Oscar awards coincided with this tumultuous period of history; the end of the Art Deco era and the beginning of a climate of frustration that would eventually lead to the most brutal war that the world has ever known: the Second World War.

These early movies were filmed with methods, materials and techniques which were very different than those of today. Many movies from these early days were silent movies. There are many in the 8 mm format. It is almost impossible to view these today. The hardware to view this format is now out of fashion. Sometimes it is possible to do super 8 conversion to DVD to make watching these films possible. Luckily technology has continued to advance. Today’s films’ use of special effects could not even have been imagined during the early days, as there were simply no computers to create them.
